The Community Foundation of Halton North (CFHN) in partnership with Community Foundations Canada is pleased to announce the establishment of a one-time $10,000 funding opportunity for organizations in Halton North to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation. CFHN will distribute small grants from this Fund to support locally-led projects that build community, inspire a deeper understanding of Canada, and encourage participation in a wide range of initiatives that mark Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation. For more information about the Community Fund for Canada’s 150th, please visit www.cfhn.ca or call the Foundation office.

“Canada’s 150th is an historic moment with the power to strengthen our communities and our connection to one another. The collaborative Community Fund for Canada’s 150th will spark thousands of initiatives and activities that bring out the best that Canada has to offer,” said Ian Bird, President of Community Foundations of Canada. “The Fund will encourage all Canadians to contribute to their communities in a way that fosters a greater sense of belonging, inclusion, and reconciliation, leaving a lasting legacy for our communities and our country.”

CFHN was launched in Halton North in 2014 by a group of local citizens and provides a unique opportunity for you to create a charitable plan to donate to your favourite cause or causes for years to come. Your donation to CFHN is invested and never spent. Your donation keeps earning interest/dividends year after year and this revenue is used for grants that are given in accordance with your wishes. You can donate to a specific charity or choose to support a desired area of interest within the areas of health and social well-being, arts and culture, the environment and/or sports and recreation. You are able to support several charities at the same time.

Last year, CFHN Fund holders chose a fund option for their charitable plan that means each year they will determine which charities receive grants from their Fund. This is one of many options that you may find of interest as you consider your future charitable giving. Donors who hold this type of Fund often work closely with CFHN staff and the Grants Committee to determine where their grant(s) will have the most local impact. Last year their investments allowed grants to be awarded to the following community organizations: Links2care ($1000), The Townsend Smith Foundation ($1500) and Community Living North Halton ($1500).

If you donate to local registered charities, consider the impact a gift through the Community Foundation of Halton North will mean to your charity of choice over the longer term. Making a gift can have tax advantages for you and it will benefit the community in a significant way for eternity. For a private consultation, contact the Foundation at www.cfhn.ca or phone 905- 864- 9211. Meetings can be arranged at your convenience with a staff or Board Member. A gift made today will have an impact for generations to come.
